MLB Preview and Predictions for May 6th, 2021

Plenty of Major League Baseball action today, with 10 games on the card.

The featured matchup of the day is unquestionably the Yankees vs. Astros, as this series marks the first time since the 2019 American League Championship Series that these two juggernauts have matched up. Gerrit Cole will toe the slab for the Bronx Bombers, while Lance McCullers Jr. takes the mound for the Astros. The Yankees are winners of 5 straight, a drastic turnaround from their slow start to the season.

Pick: Both teams have formidable pitchers on the mound, so we like the under 7.5

It is also unique in that most games on today’s slate are afternoon matchups. The Boston Red Sox take on the Detroit Tigers in more day action, and both teams couldn’t be on further ends of the spectrum. The Red Sox have won 18 games this season, while the Tigers have won an MLB-worst 9 games. Spencer Turnbull takes the mound for the Tigers, while Nathan Eovaldi will be on the hill for the Red Sox.

Pick: The Tigers are heavy underdogs at +172 and we are rolling with the value

Another intriguing storyline is the success of the scorching hot Cleveland Indians, who have won 4 in a row and are 8-2 in their last 10. They will take on the Kansas City Royals this afternoon, who stand at a respectable 16-13. The Royals are losers of 4 straight games and look to put an end to their skid behind their ace Danny Duffy.

Pick: The Royals end their skid and come out on top

The Braves will take on the Nationals in a National League East showdown as well. Drew Smyly is on the bump for the Braves, and the Nationals will counter with Jon Lester. This will be Lester’s second start of the season after being sidelined with a thyroid issue.

Pick: Both teams tee off this afternoon and the Over 9.0 hits
